Horticultural Producers and Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society (HOPCOMS) will be holding ‘Mango and Jackfruit Mela 2017’ from Friday at over 300 outlets in Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts.
Minister for Horticulture S.S. Mallikarjun will inaugurate the mela on Friday at the Hudson Circle outlet.
As many as 12 varieties of mango and over six varieties of jackfruit will be sold at a 10% discount. Mangoes will be priced between ₹ 30 to 85 a kg and jackfruits at ₹ 80 a kg.
This time, the HOPCOMS is associated with Phone-pe (a unit of Flipkart) for organising the Mela. Phone-pe is also offering a discount of up to ₹ 50 for consumer who purchase the fruits by using the Phone-pe App.
Belluru Krishna, managing director of HOPCOMS, said that the mela is being organised to provide mangoes and jackfruits at a reasonable price and also provide remunerative price to growers.
Carbide-free mangoes will be sold in 3-kg and 4-kg carton boxes. “This year we proposed to market 1,000 tonnes of mango and 200 tonnes of jackfruit as against the 734 tonnes of mangoes and 151 tonnes of jackfruit previously. We have also made arrangements to market the fruits through mobile vans. The mela will be go on till July/August,” he said.
President G.R. Srinivasan said that HOPCOMS was aimed at providing quality fruits by arranging melas during the season.
