The Manappuram Gold Loan office situated on Bommanahalli Main Road in the city was vandalised and looted by a gang of robbers who broke into the building on Wednesday night. They made away with gold valuables worth Rs. 12 lakh. The robbers allegedly had first cut the power supply to the building and switched off the surveillance cameras.

The incident took place on Wednesday night around 11.30 p.m. after the office was closed for the day in Madiwala police station limits.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the burglars gained entry with the keys to the main door of the office. The gang members then went inside the office and vandalized it before they managed to open one of the almirahs where the gold was kept in a file.

According to the police, the gang sprinkled chilli powder across the office premises in order to misguide the dog squad from sniffing out clues. The police are probing into all angles and are not ruling out the involvement of someone known to the company or the staff at this stage.
