Mudit Dandwate, a 26-year old Bengaluru based entrepreneur, whose left forearm was bitten off by a crocodile in Thattekere lake on Sunday morning, underwent reconstructive surgery on Monday morning.
His tissues have been sent for culture to check if there is any other contamination.
Mudit’s left forearm was ripped away by a crocodile when he tried to rescue his dogs at the lake in Ramanagaram district.
Doctors, who treated him on Sunday, said that though he was out of danger, he had lost a lot of blood and was under observation.
On Monday morning as his blood pressure and haemoglobin level stablised, plastic surgeons operated on him. “We completely removed the dead tissues and nerves through a process called debridement. We also shaped his forearm stump and covered it through reconstructive surgery,” said K. Priyadarshan, senior plastic and reconstructive surgeon of Hosmat Hospital.
He said that once the wounds heal, a prosthetic forearm would be fitted.
Meanwhile, the Forest Department have posted two additional watchers at the entrance to the lake to prevent people from entering the forests during the holidays. An official said that with the place acquiring online popularity as an ideal spot for day-trips from Bengaluru, many visitors tend to tresspass during weekends and holidays.
The department is also inquiring into the charge of tresspassing filed against Mr. Dandwate.
