The man who helped the police to catch convict Jaishankar after his escape from the Bangalore Central Prison in September, was rewarded here on Thursday.

Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee and Director-General and Inspector General of Police, Lalrokhuma Pachau presented a Rs. five lakh cheque to Abdul Mujassim Pasha (24), site supervisor, at a function organised at Malleswaram grounds.

According to Pasha, he befriended Jaishankar when he was remanded in judicial custody after he was arrested on harassment charge in 2012. And he had been in touch with Jaishankar since then.

Meanwhile, a team of police personnel who were on Jaishankar’s trail collected information about his contacts inside and outside the prison. The police obtained a list of Jaishankar’s friends whom he would possibly contact and approached them, including Pasha, in advance and asked them to inform them if they got a call from Jaishankar.

As expected, Pasha got a call from Jaishankar seeking help. He asked Pasha to arrange for food and a motorcycle. As per the plan, Pasha asked him to come to a designated place near Kudlu near Electronic city and passed on the information to the police. That helped the police to nab Jaishankar.

“We are thankful for the Pasha for helping us with the information. As a token of appreciation, we are giving him an reward as promised,” Commissioner of Police Raghavendra H. Auradkar said.
