April 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:28 am IST - Bengaluru:

Alert residents of Jayanagar helped the police nab a 23-year-old man who had turned a nuisance as he used to steal women’s undergarments and tear them up.

Police said Sunil, a resident of Pragatipura in Banashankari, used to sneak onto the terraces of the houses in Jayanagar and pick up women’s undergarments put out on the clothesline, and tear them up before fleeing from the spot leaving the shreds behind.

After such incidents were repeated at regular intervals, residents started keeping an eye on people moving around suspiciously.

On Friday, luck ran out for Sunil, who ventured onto the terrace of an apartment and got into the act. A few residents blocked his exit and informed the police.

A team of police led by Assistant Sub-Inspector G. Chandrashekhar rushed to the spot and arrested Sunil, a school dropout and an unemployed person. He was booked under section 427 (mischief) and 448 (trespass) of IPC, and was remanded in judicial custody till April 17.
