Man robbed, dies of stab injuries sustained in incident

In a shocking incident at Malleswaram on Saturday night, a gang of men stabbed a 32-year-old man and robbed his belongings. The man later died in hospital. Four suspects involved in the murder for gain was apprehended by police the next morning.

Sources from the Malleswaram police identified the victim as Ashish Pal, a native of Kolkata and an employee of the restaurant called 1947 on 15th Cross in Malleswaram. Pal, a housekeeping staff, has been working at the eatery for the last two years. “At around 11.30 p.m., the victim was going home on his motorcycle when the four-member gang intercepted him. They attempted to rob him of his belongings at knifepoint. When he resisted, one of them stabbed him in the stomach and pocketed his cash and mobile phone. The gang fled leaving him bleeding profusely,” said Venkatachalaiah, Inspector of Police, Malleswaram.

Passersby, who spotted Pal writhing in pain, rushed him to a hospital nearby. But the restaurant worker succumbed to his stab wound soon after. The police control room was alerted. They got the information that a gang was operating on a scooter and a motorcycle without a registration plate. The information was passed on all police limits and a hunt for the gang was launched. Meanwhile in the early hours of Sunday, Dhananjay, a Police Constable attached to the Malleswaram police, spotted the motorcycle with two suspects, later identified as Shivu (21) and Manikanda (20) who are both residents of Srirampura. He chased and arrested them.Following interrogation, the duo confessed to the crime and led to the arrest of their accomplices Santhosh Rao (20) of Rajagopal Nagar, and Likith (20) also from Srirampura.

Investigators seized the cash totalling Rs. 1,500 and the mobile phone that the gang had robbed from Ashish Pal.
