Man resists son’s arrest, dies in ‘assault’

A 73-year-old man died after a team of Bangalore City Police allegedly assaulted him when he tried to resist the arrest of his son in Moornadu in Kodagu district on Tuesday.

While Deviprasad, a cab driver, was arrested on the charges of kidnap and rape of a girl, whom he married three months ago, his father, identified as Chandrashekhar, sufferred a cardiac arrest and died in the hospital, where he was rushed.

Sources said Deviprasad’s mother is now protesting with the body, seeking justice.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bangalore South, H.S. Revanna, said that he would probe the allegation after getting a report from the Kodagu police.

Deviprasad met the girl from Bangalore, who is the daughter of a police official working in the City Police Commissioner’s office, after an accidental missed call on the mobile and the duo eloped to Madikeri.

However, her father, who traced her brought her back to Bangalore, and allegedly forced her to file a complaint with the Siddapura police station.

Mr. Revanna said that the arrest was made based on a complaint and the accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
