A fabricator was killed on the spot and his wife sustained severe burns in a fire accident caused by leakage from an LPG cylinder in Kamakshipalya on Thursday.

The deceased, Kantharaju (28), married to Jyothi eight months ago, was living in a rented house in Sannakki Bayalu. According to the police, Kantharaju, who was preparing tea, turned on the gas stove and went out to get milk without turning it off. On returning, he attempted to light the stove without realising the gas leak.

Fire soon engulfed the house and Kantharaju, who sustained severe burn injuries, collapsed in a corner of the kitchen and died. Jyothi, who was sleeping, woke up in shock and raised alarm for help. Neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued them before calling the fire and emergency control room.

The duo was shifted to a nearby hospital where Kantharaju was declared brought dead. Jyothi, who sustained third degree burn injuries, has been admitted to Victoria Hospital.

Fire and Emergency service personnel rushed to the spot and put out the fire.

The Kamakshipalya police have taken up a case and are investigating.
