Depressed over the death of his wife, a 27-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a lake in Nelamangala with his two children aged two and five.

The man was identified as Kavi Urs, an autorickshaw driver. According to the police, Kavi Urs lost his wife, Muniratnamma, to brain fever six months ago.

The police said that Kavi Urs went into depression and his parents took care of the children, Rashmi (5) and Rakesh (2). On Monday, Kavi Urs went missing with the children. After a search, his parents filed a missing person complaint with the RMC Yard police station in the evening.

The tragedy came to light when passers-by noticed the body of a boy floating in Madavara Lake adjacent to Jindal Nature Cure Campus in Nelamangala on Tuesday.

The police rushed to the spot and upon verification from the control room, it was revealed that there was a missing complaint filed in RMC Yard police station.

The police informed the relatives and retrieved the body, which was later identified as Rakesh’s. The police then carried out a search and recovered the other bodies.
