The Basaveshwaranagar police have arrested the founder and creative director of a city-based web design company for slapping his fiancée and calling off the wedding over a trivial matter.

Ramprasad Raju C.N. of White Orange Works has also been charged with taking Rs. 5 lakh from the woman’s family.

The victim, an MBA graduate, claimed in her complaint that Ramprasad had lied to her. “Though he had studied only up to SSLC, he cheated me by claiming that he held a Bachelor of Computer Application degree,” she said.

Besides, after the engagement was cancelled, Ramprasad reportedly called her to meet his parents. “When I went to his house, I was slapped and humiliated by him and his family members,” she said in the complaint.

The match was fixed through a broker two months ago. Basaveshwaranagar police said the wedding was cancelled 13 days before the scheduled date reportedly because the girl had demanded a particular type of sari. “We are further investigating the case to ascertain the exact reason behind it,” the police said.

The family of the accused was unavailable for comment.
