A husband, who saw red during an argument with his wife, took matters a little too far when he set her scooter on fire. Worse, the fire spread to two bikes parked nearby.
Jayavelu (34), unemployed and with a drinking problem, was arrested by the Banaswadi police.
The father of a three-year-old used to torment his wife of six years suspecting her of having extramarital affairs.
Unable to bear the harassment, she filed a complaint of domestic violence, following which the police arrested Jayavelu. He came out on bail recently and continued to threaten her.
On Tuesday night, he went to his in-laws’ house in Lingarajapuram where his wife was staying and demanded that he be allowed to see his child. Scared, the family refused to allow him into the house.
Enraged, Jayavelu set fire to his wife’s vehicle parked outside the house and the flames spread to the other two-wheelers.
Neighbours managed to douse the fire. Before fleeing, Jayavelu sent an SMS to his wife saying this was just a sample and warned of further harm.
The police later arrested him.

The police, who said she was harassed by her husband and in-laws for more dowry, arrested the husband.
