The Maratahalli police on Wednesday arrested a 28-year-old man from Bihar and recovered two country-made revolvers and two live cartridges from him. Based on a tip-off, a team of police nabbed Goutham Pandey, who was waiting for his clients to deliver the weapons.
At the time of interrogation, Pandey told the police that was a priest in a temple in Bihar and had come to the city by train to sell the weapons. He told police that he bought the two revolvers from Munger Arms Factory in Bihar for ₹10,000 each and was going to sell it for
₹ 40,000 to ₹70,000 per revolver.
However, the police found out that the local arms factory in Bihar had been shut down and locals were assembling guns (Katta) in their homes and selling it to customers. The police are now trying to ascertain the source of the weapon.
In a similar case, the HAL police in July last year had arrested Amir Hussein, 33, a native of Aligarh in U.P. who came to the city to sell weapons. When the police intercepted him on Outer Ring Road, he tried to escape by firing two rounds at the police. The police in retaliation fired at the accused injuring him. A country-made revolver with 13 rounds of ammunition were recovered from him.
