A man duped a gold loan company at Tilaknagar of ₹1.10 lakh recently after taking an advance to release ‘gold’ from elsewhere.

According to the complaint filed by Abhilash T.R., manager with Hindustan Gold Company, on April 14, a man who identified himself as Manohar approached them saying he had mortgaged 100 grams of gold elsewhere. He offered to deposit the metal with Hindustan Gold Company if he was given an advance to release it from the other firm.

After Manohar sent his identification proof through a message, the manager sent an executive with the money. Manohar convinced the executive to wait outside the building while he ‘retrieved’ the gold from the firm, which he claimed was on the third floor.

Manohar jumped from the third floor to an adjacent building and fled. It was half-an-hour later that the executive realised Manohar was missing.

The police are trying to track down Manohar using his mobile phone number and the DL which he had offered as identification proof.

"We suspect that Manohar had submitted fake IDs and someone else’s phone number,” said a police office. Police have sought CCTV footage to get a physical description of Manohar.
