Man caught trying to circulate counterfeit notes

The Vivek Nagar police have arrested a 31-year-old man red-handed while he was trying to circulate counterfeit notes on Thursday. The police have seized fake currency of Rs. 500 denomination worth Rs. 40,000.

The accused identified as Shankar (31), a native of Chennai, was allegedly working for a contact based in Thailand. Shankar used to get the currency from Thailand and circulate it among middlemen in and around the country, the police said.

Shankar has been remanded in judicial custody. Investigations are on to trace his local contacts.
