The Ashok Nagar police have arrested a 28-year-old man who along with his wife kidnapped his seven-year-old niece from her school. The accused demanded Rs 10 lakhs from his brother-in-law who had just returned from Dubai, but finally murdered the child on Wednesday . After strangulating Ratibhanisar to death, the accused even helped the family members to file a complaint and pretended to assist the police in the investigation.

However, the police suspecting his behaviour picked him up for questioning and the accused confessed to the crime.

In another incident, three armed men robbed a mobile and wallet from a business management student at knife point while he was returning home from college in Mahadevapura on Wednesday evening. The victim Suprathik Ghosh was returning home from his college. While walking near total mall junction, three youths, posing themselves as salesmen, approached him on the pretext of selling goods at cheaper prices. While Ghosh refused and started walking, the trio overpowered and threatened him at knife point demanding the valuables. The trio soon escaped after snatching the mobile and wallet worth Rs. 25,000.

Though passersby came to the victim’s rescue after he raised an alarm, the trio managed to escape. The Mahadevapura police have registered a case, and based on the physical description provided by Ghosh, they launched a massive search for the accused. “We have asked for the CCTV footage from the near-by shops to identify them”, a senior police officer said.
