A 25-year-old man from Assam, who was absconding after allegedly killing his wife, has been arrested by Electronics City police on Friday night. The man has been accused of killing his wife, Junali Goola (23) and dumping her body in a grove after he learning that she had lied to him about being unmarried before marrying him.
The accused Ajay Das was residing near Begur in Electronics City. According to the police, preliminary investigation have revealed that Das, who came to city few years ago, was working in a garments factory. Junali came to city two years ago and joined the same factory. Since both were Assamese, they became friends and eventually fell in love. Junali had told Das that her parents would not approve of their relationship. She coxed him to marry her without the knowledge of their parents. Both of them got married six years ago.
Last week, Junali had complained of vomiting and feeling uneasy. When Das took her to a doctor, they were told that Junali was pregnant. The doctor asked Junali how many children she had, to which she said two.
On returning home, Das, who was in shock, demanded an explanation. Junali told him that she was married off to a man by her parents and they had two children. She left him after some differences. Junali’s parents also stopped talking to her as she left her children and came to Bengaluru to work.
Das got angry and hit her on the head with a blunt object and strangulated her to death with her dupatta. He then took the body to a grove in an isolated place and dumped it there. After three days, the rag pickers who went to the grove found her body and informed the police. The police on reaching the spot found the body in a decomposed condition and were unable to establish the identity. They sent it to a mortuary.
With a ring and bangle recovered from the body they inquired in the surrounding area. Locals identified the couple from Assam and showed the police the house. But, the house was locked. The police then traced his relative, who is also working in the city and with his help they went to Assam and nabbed Das, who confessed to the crime. He was produced before the magistrate on Saturday and has been taken into police custody for three days for further investigation.
