The State government and the city police had to face ‘an embarrassing situation’ on Tuesday when they realised that ‘Brigade’ Azam, accused in several criminal cases, had accompanied Home Minister K.J. George and Information Minister R. Roshan Baig when they campaigned for Rizwan Arshad, Congress candidate from Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency.

Azam is named in over a dozen criminal cases.

He was booked under the Goonda Act in 2011 and spent a year in jail before getting bail.

After being spotted with the Home and Information Ministers, ‘Brigade’ Azam was arrested under Section 110 of the CrPC and produced before the tahsildar.
