The State unit of Loksatta Party has urged the government to make public a list of lake-bed encroachers prepared by it.
The party threatened the government that if it fails to do so, it would soon release the list, obtained under the RTI Act, to enable the public to know about the powerful encroachers.
Party secretary Deepak C.N. told presspersons on Friday that the government had not made the list public to safeguard influential people from Congress, JD(S) and BJP. He said over 20,000 acres had been encroached in and around Bengaluru.
State president N.S. Mukunda urged the government to take steps to protect 217 lakes in the city. There were 700 lakes around 30 years ago, he said.
