‘Make India a hub for productising innovation'

September 20, 2010 12:34 pm | Updated 12:34 pm IST - BANGALORE:

The student community of the Indian Institute of Management organised the India Product Manager's Conclave here on Sunday.

This is the first-ever such event dedicated to the product management and marketing community in India. The event witnessed a turnout of over 300 professionals from the Indian IT products ecosystem, and has signalled the beginning of the creation and evolution of a vibrant community, a press release said.

The theme of the event was to highlight the need to evolve India from being a global hub for software product development to a global hub for “productising innovation”. The event included multiple panel discussions bringing together distinguished members of the industry to discuss and present their views on the opportunities and challenges for evolving the product management and marketing ecosystem in India.

“India represents a major challenge to the widely adopted model of early adopters in productising innovation and the need of the hour is to target the emerging base of pragmatic customers in a way that sustains the growth of the start-ups in India and create increasingly more success stories from India”, said Sharad Sharma, former CEO of Yahoo India, the chief guest for the event.

He also highlighted the presence of over 650 start-ups in India in equal measure to the number of MNC captives in India and encouraged the participants to explore the opportunity of pursuing product management careers in these start-ups.

The event also highlighted the launch of AIPMM (Association of International Product Managers and Product Marketing Managers) in India. “It is great to see so much interest for Certified Product Manager certification in India where product managers will help catalyse the transformation from building innovation to productising innovation,” said Paula Gray, co-founder, AIPMM.
