A Maharashtra farmer, who had come to the city for training at the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Hessaraghatta, was killed when a speeding bike knocked him down Wednesday evening.
Indrajit Pawar (45), a farmer from Pune district, had come with other farmers for the training. On Wednesday evening, he and a friend, Sanjay Kashinath, were on their way to a hair salon when the accident occurred.
Pawar, who sustained severe head injuries, was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was pronounced dead. The motorcyclist, though injured, sped away, Jalahalli traffic police said.
Wife immolates herself
A flaming row between a couple ended in the wife setting herself ablaze in their home on Amrutahalli Main Road near Maramma temple on Thursday evening.
Bayyamma (30), a domestic help and mother of two young sons, poured kerosene over herself when her husband Anand Kumar (38), a mechanic, accused her of infidelity.
The husband, who tried to douse the fire, has been admitted to Victoria Hospital with burns.
The family hailed from Pulivendula, Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, the Amrutahalli police said.
