Taking note that the potholes on the city’s roads are a serious threat to life, the Lokayukta has taken suo motu cognisance of the issue and directed officials of the civic body to take up effective steps to fill up the potholes as ‘expeditiously’ as possible.
It pulled up several BBMP officials and asked them to submit a report within two weeks. Besides BBMP, it also pulled up BMRCL for maintenance of roads based on media reports.
Some of the other information sought by the Lokayukta includes steps taken by the BBMP to maintain the roads over the past 12 months, steps taken by BBMP to fill up potholes, amount of money spent to maintain the roads and fill up potholes in the city.
Lokayukta P. Vishwanatha Shetty told The Hindu that the agencies have been asked to repair the roads and submit an interim report within two weeks. At the end of eight weeks, they will have to submit the full report, he said.
The Lokayukta order has, however, said that the case of pothole-related deaths would be decided by the appropriate authorities.
