A private complaint has been filed against a Superintendent of Lokayukta police for allegedly tipping off the Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore City that a complaint of corruption is being filed against him.

R. Srinivas Murthy, a social worker residing on Bannerghatta Road, who filed a complaint with the Lokayukta court on Thursday, alleged that Superintendent of Police P.K. Shivashankar leaked the information to Deputy Commissioner M.K. Aiyappa. Mr. Murthy said he had wanted to file a complaint with the Lokayukta against Mr. Aiyappa allegedly demanding a bribe through his clerk for an official favour. After hearing him out, Mr. Shivashankar sent him back to get more evidence, Mr. Murthy alleged, and tipped off Mr. Aiyappa. When Mr. Murthy approached Mr. Aiyappa, he confined him in his chamber, abused him and threatened him with dire consequences, the complaint said.

Reacting to the complaint, Mr. Shivashankar told The Hindu he had never set eyes on Mr. Murthy and blamed vested interests of trying to tarnish the image of the institution.
