Loan costs woman her life

January 30, 2013 08:37 am | Updated 08:37 am IST - Bangalore:

Lending money to a friend proved fatal for a senior citizen who paid for it with her life on Monday.

Doddadevamma (60) had lent Rs. 25,000 to her friend Uma, (45) , some months ago. However, when Uma began to avoid her, Doddadevamma started demanding her money back.

Uma then invited Doddadevamma home and the duo had a row, following which Uma allegedly strangled Doddadevamma with a rope. She later concealed her body under a cot in a storeroom a few yards away from home.

When Doddadevamma did not return home, her family, who knew she was visiting Uma, went there to enquire, but Uma feigned ignorance saying Doddadevamma had already left.

The family filed a missing complaint and told the police they suspect Uma’s hand.

Sathanur police, who interrogated Uma, got a confession from her.
