Excerpts from the chat:
The Hindu: Hello everyone. The launch of the underground section of Namma Metro has Bengalureans excited. Today we have with us urban rail experts Sanjeev Dyamannavar and Krishnaprasad to talk about how metro connectivity will benefit commuters.
Avinash: Welcome everyone, today is day one of operations for Namma Metro's underground section on the East-West corridor. Till now, more than 40000 people have taken the ride. We have with us today two experts Sanjeev Dyamannavar and Mr. Krishnaprasad to help us understand what the opening of this corrdior means for Bengaluru.
The Hindu: Mr. Krishnaprasad has joined. Welcome sir. Could you tell us about your experience taking the Metro today?
krishnaprasad: Today i travelled twice.Once in the morning at 6 am to make trip in first run. The response was good. the Mangaing Director travelled in the first train from Mysuru rd to BYPL. In the afternoon another trip with my family from east to west and back. The response is good being first day
Guest: sir how is majestic station how much one needs to walk from the bus station to reach there?
krishnaprasad: It is not that far may be less than half a km from BMTC and KSRTC stand and very near to shantala silk house. Locating is not a problem, however the problem the road witness heavy traffic. A sub-way for passengers coming rly station will be useful.
Tanushree: My mobile phone is of o use while travelling. Today I missed an important call, thanks to Namma Metro...
dyamannavar: These aspects were suppose to be taken care by BMRCL as this being mass public transport system. As usual initial hiccups. Best thing will be sharing all good and bad experience with BMRC and citizens on different forums
dyamannavar: Finally Bangalore has got one complete segment of 18 Kms of METRO after many misses and cost overn
The Hindu: When can we expect to see a completely interconnected metro service in Bengaluru?
dyamannavar: As per the pending works, this may happen only in 2017 and partial by end 2016
krishnaprasad: In the underground stations mobile network is not there for the time being. Few BMRCL officials who were there told me that it may take few more days
Avinash: What was your initial opinion of the facilities provided at the UG stations? Did you both feel that the launch was rushed in order to keep it in April?
dyamannavar: Launch was in rush to show public that project is on schedule. In Mejestic, one one entry opened out of four and at City railway station its not even interconnected with Railway station. All the places , only one escalator has been installed and these may take another 6 months to complete.
