It took over two-and-a-half years for liquor baron D.K. Audikesavulu and his family to realise that the 17-year-old domestic help at their house had been allegedly stealing from them ever since he was hired. The value of the stolen valuables is estimated to be over Rs. 2 crore.
The thieving came to light when the brother of the under-aged suspect tried selling a pair of stolen gold anklets at a shop in Kolar.
The Kolar police, who were tipped off about Geelani (30) trying to sell the anklets, detained him. He confessed he got them from his younger brother who works in Bangalore. On further interrogation, the Kolar police found out that the boy’s employer was Mr. Audikesavulu, who lives in Sadashivnagar. The police then detained the domestic help and brought him to Kolar.
A case of theft has also been registered by the Sadashivnagar police against the boy after the Kolar police notified them of the discovery.
The Sadashivnagar police said boy had been working at the Audikesavulu residence since 2009 and had been stealing undetected. He had also been making short trips to Kolar over the past one-and-a-half months. The police said as the boy was suspected to be a minor, they were not sure if they would be able to arrest him as of now. “We will have to verify his age before we take any action against him,” an official said.
