Investigation, policing, rules and the law will arrive in the classroom with the launch of the Student-Police Cadet programme on Monday.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who inaugurated the programme, said, “With youth forming 60 per cent of the demographics, moral education along with academics is important. The training given by Student-Police Cadet programme is very important to ensure students become responsible citizens.”
It will involve policemen visiting schools at least once a week to interact with students and train them on traffic rules, investigation, and other aspects of policing. At the same time, students would be taken to police stations to help them grasp the functioning of the law enforcement agency.
Over 1,700 students have been trained by the police in the first phase of the project.
Police officers hope that the programme would enhance community policing, with students becoming the eyes and ears of the men and women in khaki. Apart from increasing awareness of the law among the students, a closer interaction with the police is an important step in countering crimes against children, the Chief Minister said.
