An alert landlord in Chickaballapur, on hearing the screams of children from the house of his tenants, barged inside and saw their mother slitting their throats on Saturday. The woman was attempting to stab her neck, but was stopped by neighbours who had also arrived on the scene.
The children — a girl, 7, and a boy, 11, — were rushed to the nearest hospital, but the boy could not be saved. The girl and her mother are said to be out of danger.
According to the police, the woman, Shilpa, is a cardiac patient. She divorced her husband in 2012.
The police have taken up a case of murder and attempt to murder against her.
