Lake committee may go for survey of buffer zone too

May 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

Strangely, no government agency in the city has data on violations of buffer zones of either lakes or rajakaluves.

The legislature committee formed to look into encroachment of lakes in the city conducted a survey of all lakes recently.

However, there has not been any survey of buffer zone violations.

No need for NGT order

K.B. Koliwad, committee chairperson, said he would direct officials to conduct a survey of buffer zone violations (30 metres as per RMP 2015) and issue notices to violators. “The order seems to come into effect prospectively. But there is no need for an NGT order to implement the 30 metre buffer zone that should have ideally been followed,” he said.
