KSPCB offers Rs. 100 crore for cleaning Bellandur lake

December 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 24, 2016 11:58 am IST - Bengaluru:

The proposal to construct Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), which have been touted as the panacea for the foam at Bellandur lake, has received a shot in the arm with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) offering Rs. 100 crore for three plants in the area.

On his first visit to the lake on Wednesday, newly-appointed KSPCB Chairman Lakshman said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will formally hand over the money to the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) ‘soon’.

The BWSSB had proposed an additional three STPs in the area at a cost of Rs. 350 crore, but lacks the funds to execute the project. “My priority is to develop Bellandur lake and we will take up the work in a phased manner. The funds will be granted specifically for rejuvenation of the 800-acre lake,” he said.
