“Put me in hell, slit my tongue, stitch up my mouth, I’ll still sing Kannada songs through my nose,” says Yendkudka Ratna (poet G.P. Rajaratnam) to express his love for Kannada language.
Kriyative Theatre Trust is offering an opportunity for connoisseurs of theatre and youngsters to understand the noted Kannada poet on Saturday.
This creative theatre group, which believes in social action through theatre, will be staging Ratnan Parpancha — a play based on the life and works of Rajaratnam at K.H. Kalasoudha (Hanumanthanagar) at 7.30 p.m.
Rajarathnam is known for his work Ratnana Padagalu — life as seen through the eyes of Yendkudka Ratna (Drunkard Ratna). The entire work is written in rustic Kannada.
The play is the outcome of a lot of research into G.P. Rajaratnam’s works and life, interviews with members of his family, friends, colleagues and students. It includes interesting anecdotes from his life and works, some of his most popular songs and well-known comedy Kambliseve.
Director of the play Joseph said, “This unique docudrama throws light on Rajaratnam’s contribution to Kannada language and literature, and his exemplary character. It is being scripted by noted theatre personality Laxmi Chandrashekar and Sundar, who also play the lead roles. Others in the cast are Ramakrishna Kannarpadi, Chandrakeerthi, Gajanana Naik, Apoorva and Chitrashree.
Kriyative Theatre Trust, founded by Laxmi Chandrashekar, believes in the potential of theatre to facilitate the creation of a better world and is, therefore, engaged in producing plays which are purposeful and artistic.
