Kiran is kingpin, CID quotes Shivakumaraiah as saying

May 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - Bengaluru:

Shivakumaraiah, the main accused in the II PU question paper leakage case, has been making contradictory statements and is pointing a finger at his nephew, Kiran, who he says is the one involved in the paper leak this year, according to sources in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Shivakumaraiah had stopped such activities after he was booked in a similar case in 2013, the sources quoted him as saying.

The CID has revealed that Shivakumaraiah has links with the PU Department staff, who are assigned to safeguard the papers in the treasury.

The police are also gathering information on his ill-gotten wealth and his sources in the PU Department. Going by his mobile phone call data records (CDR), the police are not ruling out the involvement of officials in the PU Department head office.

Cautious probe

The police are being cautious during questioning since Shivakumaraiah suffers from diabetes. “We are trying not to be aggressive, and we do not want him to end up in hospital,” the police said.

“He is trying to hoodwink us, and by giving distorted statements, he is trying to kill time,” said a police officer.
