The Vidyaranyapura police said they have solved the murder of a 25-year-old construction labourer by arresting his relative. Umesh Ram, a native of Bihar, who was working at a construction site in Basavalingappa Layout, was found bludgeoned to death on February 24. His relative, Shyam Prakash (30), has been arrested for the murder.

Police said Shyam Prakash had married Umesh Ram’s niece back home, but had been living with another woman after he came to Bangalore to work.

Umesh Ram, who came to know about this relationship, upbraided him and threatened to tell their families back home.

Police said Shyam Prakash pre-empted it by taking Umesh Ram out on the pretext of a conciliatory talk, and then bludgeoned him to death. During investigations, the police learnt that Umesh Ram was last seen with Shyam Prakash. They picked up the latter who confessed under grilling.
