In a dramatic action by the city police, a six-year-old boy was rescued within four hours of being abducted by a gang of six criminals on Wednesday.

On Wednesday afternoon, the six-year-old son of textile businessman Amnaram was allegedly abducted from his house in Cottonpete area, near City Railway station. A shocked Amnaram rushed to the Cottonpete police station. Upon receiving his complaint, a police team swung into action.

The police said that the father received a ransom call from the kidnappers in a couple of hours demanding Rs. 30 lakh in return for the boy’s release. The police team immediately tracked the cell phone number from which the call was made and were able to identify the location of the caller.

They said that Dharmaram, one of the kidnappers, used to work with Amnaram and is believed to have been the mastermind. Following these leads, the police rushed to the Harischandra Ghat graveyard where the call was traced to.

The police team surrounded the area and opened fire at the kidnappers, who were found to be hiding inside the graveyard with the boy. In the melee, the police were able to nab two of the criminals, who have now been identified as Dharmaram (23) and Jitendra (20). Four kidnappers managed to escape, leaving the boy behind.

The arrested duo have been admitted to K.C. General Hospital. Two police constables — Afsar Ali and Muniraju — were also injured in the incident.
