The Cubbon Park Traffic police has been authorised to handle the keys of the Cubbon Park to facilitate movement of vehicles during an emergency.

According to a State government notification issued by City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood, the gates will remain closed between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m from Monday to Saturday and the park will be closed to traffic on Sunday.

The notification, however, added that the park may be opened by the police in the case of an emergency. “The gates can be opened if an ambulance has to pass or if there is heavy traffic on the roads surrounding the park,” said R. Hitendra, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic).

Meanwhile, police officers said that they have been facing issues with the private security guards who had the keys of the six gates of Cubbon Park. “They disappear with it and at the time of need, we cannot find them. In case some crime happens inside Cubbon Park, we cannot access it easily,” said a police officer.

The commissioner added that parking of vehicles is prohibited outside the gates of the park on Queens Road, Dr. Ambedkar Veedhi, Nrupthanga Road and Kasthurba Road.
