Kerala Samajam, (Cantonment), Bangalore, on Sunday conducted several cultural programmes and distributed prizes to winners in various competitions.
Children and members participated in entertainment programmes which were conducted to mark “Onam 2012”.
D.B. Chandre Gowda, MP, Bangalore North, spoke about the contributions of Malayalis settled in Bangalore and appreciated the rich cultural heritage of Kerala.
Since its inception in 1940, Kerala Samajam has been serving the community in areas of education, health, and culture, Mr. Chandre Gowda said.
C.K. Manoharan, chairman of the samajam (Cantonment), said that a job fair was organised by the youth wing at Kairalee Nikethan School at Indiranagar with support of members with great success. The Cantonment wing of the samajam was set up in 1972 and it has been in the forefront of various social activities, he said.
The organisation arranged lunch for members and their families. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy could not attend the programme due to health reasons, members of the samajam said.
