Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched 637 hi-tech Karnataka State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses in front of Vidhana Soudha in the city on Thursday.

The non-AC buses, which will operate between 18 towns and cities across Karnataka, are equipped with rear-view cameras, security network system, and ramps for persons with disabilities. The Chief Minister and State Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy flagged off 241 buses on Thursday, which will be operational from today.

The remaining buses will become operational by December, said Rajendar Kumar Kataria, Managing Director, KSRTC. The buses, which have been funded under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, meet the Urban Bus specification II norms specified by the Government of India.

City bus stand renovation

After years of being in limbo, it appears that the plan to renovate the Kalasipalaya bus stand will be in action soon. Mr. Siddaramaiah announced that a modern bus terminus would be built in the area at a cost of Rs. 60 crore.

“We have awarded the contract and hope to complete work within two years,” said Mr. Reddy.
