The ongoing agitation in north Karnataka over the Mahadayi water row between Karnataka and Goa is all set to acquire “star value” with the Kannada film fraternity jumping into the fray.

Shutting down film productions, the entire industry under the leadership of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) will participate in a huge rally in Hubballi on Sunday.

Actor Doddanna told presspersons that Shivarajkumar, Puneet Rajkumar, Darshan, Yash, Sudeep, Radhika Pandit, Tara Anuradha and Bhavana, among others, will participate.

“After the Gokak agitation, headed by the late Dr. Rajkumar, this will be the first time when the film fraternity will come out in support of a cause in such numbers,” said Mr. Doddanna. “The actors will travel from Bengaluru to Hubballi on Saturday night,” said Thomas D’Souza, president, KFCC.

Mr. Sudeep recently visited Nargund and participated in a protest rally organised by the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sene. Srinagar Kitti too visited Nargund on Tuesday and expressed his support for the agitation.

Some film personalities had also visited the families of farmers who committed suicide because of agrarian distress.

“The decision to participate in Sunday’s rally is to reassure farmers that the film fraternity is with them,” said Mr. D’Souza.
