December 15, 2014 12:26 pm | Updated 02:07 pm IST - Bengaluru:

The Karnataka High Court on Monday gave green signal for conducting of “Kambala”, traditional slush track buffalo race, in various locations of Coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi during this season.

Justice S. Abdul Nazeer passed the interim order by staying the decisions of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrations, which had denied permission for “Kambala”.

Imposing certain conditions, the Court has directed the organisers and the district administrations that they should ensure that buffalos should not be subject to unnecessary pain in violation of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Kambala Committee had moved the High Court questioning denial of permission.

Meanwhile, the court adjourned further hearing on the case.
