The State government will convene an all-party meeting on Sunday to decide the next course of legal action on the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal’s verdict rejecting the interim petition for releasing 7 tmcft of water to Karnataka.

Floors leaders of both the Houses of the State legislature, State MPs, and MLAs and MLCs from Dharwad, Gadag, Bagalkot, and Belagavi districts have been asked to attend the meeting presided by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The meeting will be held at the conference hall of the Vidhana Soudha.

Mr. Siddaramaiah, who chaired a meeting with Water Resources Minister M.B. Patil and senior officials on Wednesday, told presspersons that Mr. Patil will hold a meeting with State’s counsel Fali Nariman on Friday to explore legal options to set right the injustice meted out to the State by the tribunal.

First round held

Mr. Patil held the first round of discussion with Mr. Nariman last Sunday.

Sources in the government said the State was in a dilemma whether to file a special leave petition before the Supreme Court or a review petition before the tribunal challenging the tribunal’s verdict on rejecting the interim application.

Mr. Siddaramaiah said: “Land and water issues, be it Cauvery or Mahadayi, is something that concerns everyone and we need to know everyone’s opinion, cutting across political barriers. We will decide the future course of action based on the outcome of this meeting.”
