Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri on Friday visited the SSLC evaluation centres here to inspect the work, which began on Thursday.
The Minister's visit gained significance following the protest by evaluatorson the day one of evaluation.
Accompanied by the officials from the Department of Public Instruction, the Minister visited evaluation centres at Maharani's Junior College and Marimallappa's College here. He spoke to the evaluators and sought details about the arrangements made for the evaluation.
A few of the teachers' representatives met Mr. Kageri and put forth their demands.
The SSLC evaluators are seeking higher remuneration for the work, equivalent to that given to PU evaluators.
Suspension of the proposed counselling for direct recruitment of candidates to the posts of headmaster; promotion of eligible assistant teachers as headmasters; removal of pay disparity by revising the basic-pay scale from Rs. 8,825-16,000 to Rs. 11,400-21,600; and appointment of eligible high-school teachers as PU teachers are among the demands.
Sources said the Minister asked the teachers to finish the evaluation work as he would examine their demands.
The Minister later visited PU evaluation centres at Mahajana's College and Vijaya Vittala College here and spoke to the evaluators. Principal of District Institute of Education and Training Kemparaje Gowda, Deputy Director of Public Instructions Nagendra Kumar and senior official Narasimhaiah were present.
PU evaluators had also staged protests demanding higher honorarium for the evaluation which was considered by the Government. The evaluation concluded on Thursday.
More than 1,500 teachers are evaluating SSLC answer scripts at six centres here. The week-long evaluation of SSLC answer scripts will conclude next week.
Earlier, Mr. Kageri inaugurated a conference of physical education teachers at Jagan Mohan Palace auditorium, where he interacted with all SSLC evaluators in the evening.
