The former Minister for Primary Education Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri on Tuesday demanded that the State government come out with a legislation on language policy. Accusing the government of not being serious about the issue, Mr. Kageri said the government should clarify its stand. “The government has received thousands of applications to open English-medium schools. If the department does not allow the schools to open, then it is contempt of court. It should take a decision on this at the earliest,” he said.
Mr. Kageri, who also criticised the State government for forming a new committee to review textbooks for classes 1 to class 10 from the coming academic year, demanded that the committee be annulled.
