Traffic movement on the busy J.C. Road, Mysuru Road, Sheshadripuram and other parts of the city were disrupted for hours when thousands of people gathered in front of theatres screening Kabali . However, fans offered sweets and snacks to harried motorists, many of whom joined in the festivities.

Milk offerings to cut-outs Fans raised slogans, burst crackers and offered hundreds of litres of milk to life-size cut-outs of Rajinikanth. Hundreds of police personnel were deployed in and around theatres to keep disruptions to a minimum.

Frenzy in border district The excitement in any small theatre in Kolar Gold Field perhaps matches even that in Chennai in terms of the decibel level.

The crowds at theatres were getting beyond control. Police had to resort to a mild lathicharge to disperse the swelling masses at Lakshmi Talkies in Andersonpet.

Though the local economy has been hit hard by closure of the gold mine, some paid as much as Rs. 800 – as against the rack rate of Rs. 80 – for a ticket.
