A journalist of a regional channel is under the scanner after the Central Crime Branch sleuths pursuing a complaint that a gang involved in getting fake passports was threatening two colleagues who went to do a sting operation on them.

Police sources said that the journalists, representing a leading news channel, did a sting on the gang which promised to get a passport using forged documents.

The gang, which later got to know about the sting, started calling the journalists, threatening them with dire consequences.

The duo filed a complaint with the HAL police and the case was transferred to Central Crime Branch.

The CCB sleuths, while scouring through the call details of the gang, stumbled upon a number of a journalist who is suspected to have been passing information about the channel’s sting operation to the gang.

The police have now are verifying the link between the accused journalist and the gang.

Meanwhile K.J. Srinivasa, Regional Passport Officer (RPO), Bangalore, said a complaint against procuring passport by submitting false documents had been filed at the HAL police station. “Let the police carry out its investigation and furnish evidence of involvement by passport officials, we will initiate necessary action as per law,” he said.
