Enraged over the rejection of his marriage proposal, a 24-year-old man attacked his girlfriend with a chopper and severed her fingers in Girinagar on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Vinay, who is unemployed, was seeing Nayana, a resident of Dasarahalli. Nayana works for a construction company in Malleswaram. According to the police, the accused sought to marry Nayana following which she had sought her parents’ consent, who not only refused the proposal, but advised her to stay away from him.

Vinay, who realised that Nayana was avoiding him, went to her office on Tuesday and brought her to his room on the pretext of discussing some issues, the police said and added that a heated argument ensued between the two. In a fit of rage, Vinay allegedly attacked her with a chopper and severed her fingers. He fled the scene after Nayana raised an alarm.

Neighbours rushed her to a private hospital where she is being treated.

Knocked down

An 11-year-old boy, riding pillion with his grandfather, was killed on the spot when he came under the wheels of a water tanker in Yeshwanthpur on Tuesday.

Nishanth was on his way to swimming pool when the accident occurred. The tanker knocked down the moped near Netaji circle. Nishanth fell down and came under its wheels. His grandfather, Venkata Ratnam, sustained minor injuries and was rushed to M. S. Ramaiah Hospital.

The tractor driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot. he Yeshwanthpur police have registered a case.


A 28-year-old man committed suicide by hanging at his residence in K R Puram on Tuesday. The deceased identified as Suresh, a resident of Devasandra, was working as sales staff in a supermarket in Basavanagudi.
