Jewels worth Rs 1.5 crore stolen, cook held

Pulikeshi Nagar police have arrested a cook for stealing gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 1.5 crore and Rs. 10 lakh from the house of a senior executive of Ernst & Young.

The arrested man, Mahesh Bahadur, is a Nepali national. He had been employed with Ranjan Biswas for three months before he fled with the valuables when the complainant and his wife were abroad, police said.

The couple came to know of the theft on December 1, 2014, when their driver visited the house in Frazer Town and found the door open. The valuables were kept in a cupboard in the master bedroom on the first floor.

Police tracked down Mahesh Bahadur and recovered the jewellery and Rs 7.5 lakh.
