JD(S) to have its own Kempe Gowda function

June 03, 2011 11:44 am | Updated 11:44 am IST - BANGALORE:

A public function commemorating the 500th birth anniversary of Bangalore's founder Kempe Gowda is being organised by the Malleswaram unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) on June 5.

The event, which the party claims will see a few hundred BJP workers crossing over to the JD(S), is being organised as a counter to the fact that JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy was not invited to the government function to commemorate Kempe Gowda Jayanti last month.

Addressing presspersons, Rajendra, former corporator and BJP member, said he and hundreds of his supporters would join the JD(S) on the occasion. “I started with the Sangh Parivar and worked for the party for 25 years. It is my work and influence that helped many leaders win from this area,” he claimed. Yet, he added, the party was now being driven by real estate lobbies.

The function will be inaugurated by the former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda.
