Sending out a clear signal that it is willing to support the Congress in the BBMP council, JD(S) State president H.D. Kumaraswamy said his party will go with the Congress “in the interest of Bengaluru’s development”.
While a formal alliance is yet to be sealed, the announcement paves the way for a “fragile coming together” of the two parties to hold the reins of the BBMP despite the BJP emerging as the single largest party and falling short of just three votes to win a majority in the council.
Mr. Kumaraswamy said, “It is difficult to develop Bengaluru without the support of the government. If Congress offers an assurance to develop Bengaluru, JD(S) is ready to extend support.”
The Congress responded enthusiastically to the announcement. A Minister told The Hindu that Siddaramaiah spoke to Mr. Kumaraswamy about an alliance to which the latter responded positively.
