JD(S) leaders meet Governor, demand inquiry into VTU scams

November 14, 2014 02:21 pm | Updated 02:21 pm IST - BENGALURU:

Four Janata Dal (Secular) leaders met with Governor and Chancellor of Universities Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala here on Friday demanding an inquiry into various irregularities in the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).

They alleged that scams worth crores of Rupees had been exposed earlier too, including through the government audits, but no steps had been taken either by the previous Governor H.R. Bhardwaj or by the State Governments. “We are not asking for his removal, we want these scams to be probed into,” said MLC Mari Thibbegowda.

Releasing a booklet containing details of the various irregularities reported from the technical varsity, they said the Chancellor must order an inquiry into irregularities in recruitments, civil works and financial matters.

“There has been no Financial Officer (FO) in the university in two years. The Registrar has been doubling up as the FO,” he added.
