Patients visiting the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research (SJICSR) now need not worry about carrying their angiogram CD every time they go for a follow-up.

With the institute adopting PACS (picture archiving and communication system), all medical images, including angiogram, ECG, ECHO, X-ray, CT scan, and nuclear scan, will be archived for precise diagnosis and effective decision-making by doctors. The new system, the first of its kind in the government sector, was launched by Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash R. Patil on Friday.

Institute director C.N. Manjunath said PACS was an evolving healthcare technology for short- and long-term storage, retrieval, management, distribution and presentation of medical images. “The system is linked to 40 workstations in the hospital, including the operation theatres, for doctors to view and decide on the patient’s treatment,” Dr. Manjunath said.

The institute will start a 75-bed facility in Kalaburagi at a cost of Rs. 75 crore. The facility would come up on the premises of the upcoming Kalaburagi Medical College, he said.

Earlier, Governor Vajubhai R. Vala inaugurated a 20-bed deluxe ward block on the 6th floor.
