The Janata Dal (Secular), which vacated its Racecourse office recently, finally has succeeded in securing a site for building its office in the heart of the city, thanks to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which resolved to give land on Friday. A rent of Rs 12,000 has been fixed for the land. “Only required space will be given in the vacant site next to Krishna flour mill in Subashnagar ward of Gandhinagar constituency,” a resolution said.
The Janata Dal (S) recently vacated its office on Racecourse road following a Supreme Court verdict. The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee has now occupied the building.
Since the day Janata Dal (S) lost its case in the apex court, the party began looking for a suitable plot “in the heart of the city”. The party even appealed to BBMP, Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA), and even Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for a vacant site for building its office.
Though BBMP tried to allot 1.1-acre of land behind Chowdiah Memorial Hall earlier, it led to a controversy with the Karnataka High Court staying the move following a petition by one K.G. Chandrashekara Bhat, who claimed right over the property.
